The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team will have to finish out the season without standout I-back Tre Bryant.
In Monday's press conference, coach Mike Riley said that Bryant will be undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday, most likely ending the sophomore's season. "He has just been a warrior trying to get back, but as we look at it for his long term future with us, the best thing for him is to go ahead and get it done now."
Bryant started the season strong, with 299 yards and two touchdowns in the Husker's first two games, before aggravating an existing knee injury against Oregon. Bryant has not played in Nebraska's last five games.
Riley said they will be pursuing a medical red shirt for Bryant. "I think he would be a great applicant for getting this year back."With Bryant likely out for the season, the run offense workload will continue to fall on the shoulders of Devine Ozigbo, Mikale Wilbon and Jaylin Bradley.
The Husker's bye week last week gave a few guys a chance to heal. Riley says JD Spielman, Antonio Reed, Aaron Williams and Joshua Kalu are all now healthy. Linebackers Luke Gifford and Dedrick Young however are still questions marks for this week's game against Purdue.
