Bellevue Police Investigating Assault At Freeman Park

The Bellevue Police Department is investigating what lead to a group of people reportedly assaulting another person at Freeman Park.

Laurie Synowiecki with Bellevue Police tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that a video was sent to them around 6:30 Monday morning. In the video a group of four males run up on a person sitting on a bench in the park and begin attacking the person. She says it isn't clear yet if there was an issue with the parties involved before the assault. "I don't know if there was something that happened prior to the recording, or exactly how that played out. That's what the officers are trying to figure out.

Synowiecki says the video was shot three to four weeks ago, but they were just made aware of the video's existence. "The department was just notified this morning via our Facebook page and email that this recording of this assault existed."

The victim in the video reportedly sustained injuries, but did not seek medical treatment.

The investigation is in the very early stages, and all the people in the video haven't been identified yet, but Synowiecki says they are looking into the possibility that the people involved are Bellevue East students. "Because of the initial appearance that some of the individuals involved may be juveniles, and of course the proximity to the school, we worked with Bellevue Public Schools, with their staff, in trying to determine the identify of these kids involved."

The investigation into the incident continues, and Synowiecki says if you see something in situations like this, say something. "If you become aware of this type of thing happening, please contact law enforcement so that someone can do something about it."
