Woman Cited In Crash That Injured Motorcyclist

A Des Moines woman has been cited after Omaha Police say she ran a red light and into the path of a motorcyclist at 28th and Dodge around 2:20 Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators say the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Dodge approaching 28th Street.  The Suzuki motorcycle collided with the passenger's side of a white 2009 Chevrolet Equinox, which was going northbound on 28th Street.

Police say the driver ran a red light, causing the crash.   The motorcyclist, 21 year old Joshua McKay of Omaha,  was transported to Nebraska Medicine to be treated for multiple facial fractures, a compound arm fracture, numerous abrasions and a severe concussion.  None of these injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Equinox, 49 year old Shannon Barritt of Des Moines, was cited for a traffic signal violation and improper display of plates.
