A Sarpy County woman has died after investigators say she was accidentally shot by her husband Thursday afternoon.
Paramedics were called to a home a block south of 183 and Harrison around 3:30 and found 68-year-old Afton Teague in her kitchen suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Teague was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where she was pronounced dead.
The Sarpy County Sheriff's Department says Teague was shot as her husband was cleaning a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Investigators say he had been shooting at an indoor gun range earlier in the afternoon.
Ed Dugan lives two houses down and was unaware what of what happened until authorities showed up. “I am very, very sad for the family," said Nelson. "We didn’t hear a shot any noise at all although I did hear a police siren.”
The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation, which is still ongoing.
