A man was critically injured Wednesday morning when his pick truck slammed into a garbage truck northwest of Bennington.
Douglas County Sheriff's Sergeant Brian Parizek says the Waste Management truck was westbound on Highway 36 around 9:15 when the driver of an eastbound pickup crossed the center line near 186th Street.
Parizek says the garbage truck driver swerved to avoid the collision, but the pick-up slammed into the side of the Waste Management truck.
The unidentified pickup driver was pulled from the wreckage and was unresponsive when he was airlifted to an Omaha hospital in critical condition. The driver and passenger in the garbage truck were not injured.
