OPS Officials Say North High Threats Are A Hoax

Omaha Public Schools officials say social media posts circulated online Tuesday detailing threats to students are believed to be a hoax.

Spokesperson Monique Farmer says the district sent an email out to parents late Tuesday after social media posts showed a string of text messages which threatened violence at North High School.

"We take threats like this very seriously and we have alerted the Omaha Police Department," the email stated. "OPD has shared with us that their preliminary investigation leads them to believe this is a hoax."

District officials said the text messages are associated with an out-of-state email address and several other out-of-state school districts have received similar social media threats.

OPS will have additional security Wednesday as a precaution.
