Nebraskans Return After Surviving Las Vegas Shooting

Nebraskans who were on the Las Vegas strip when the deadly mass shooting happened are now safe and sound back in Nebraska.

“We kind of just thought it was part of the show,”  Kelly Buhr told WOWT 6 News  Country music singer Jason Aldean was on stage when the gunman fired on the crowd of about 22,000 people.

“They started going crazy and then he [Jason Aldean] was running off,” said Kelly. “It sounded like the shots were just getting louder and closer like they were coming at us.”

The gunshots lasted for 10 to 15 minutes, according to witnesses.  The Buhr family is from Adams, Nebraska and they all tightly held hands as it sounded like the shots rang toward their hiding spot.

“We hid around all the rocks around the landscaping of the pool. We didn’t know what to do and we couldn’t get out of this area,” Kelly told 6 News.

“The gun shots… not knowing what to do,” said Atley Buhr.

Trent Bostwsuk of Omaha was also at the music festival at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino when the sound of gunfire rang out, leaving many in the crowd confused.

“In the moment I wasn’t like terrified I was just like…'is this really happening?’ It was crazy,” said Bostwsuk. “There was just panic everywhere. Everybody was running everywhere in the streets.”

At least 59 died and more than 500 people taken to area hospitals, authorities said. “Just thank God that we got out of there,” Bostwsuk said. “It’s all just surreal for me now. It hasn’t really hit me.”
