Task Force Searching For Dangerous Fugitive

The Metro Fugitive Task Force is asking the public for help in locating a dangerous fugitive from Lancaster County.

Authorities say 49 year old Joel Watermeier is wanted on three felony warrants for First Degree Assault, First Degree False Imprisonment and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony. Watermeier is a white male, 6'3, weighing 220 pounds. Watermeier is considered very dangerous and citizens should not attempt to make contact with him or detain him in any way.

Watermeier is wanted in connection with an incident last week where he allegedly assaulted two people he lived with. Lincoln Police say he attacked 35 year old Samuel Clemens and 36 year old Derinda Clemens with a baseball bat, bound them with duct tape and wouldn't let them leave. Eventually, Watermeier let the pair leave to seek medical treatment. Both suffered severe facial injuries due to the attack.

Watermeier also served ten years in prison for ramming his car into Lancaster County sheriff's deputies in 2002. He was shot during the incident and served thirteen years in prison for that incident.

Any member of the public who sees Watermeier should not approach him, but instead call 402-441-6000. Persons with information regarding possible locations where Watermeier may be staying are asked to contact the Metro Fugitive Task Force at 402-441-7350.

Anyone with information leading to the arrest of Watermeier may be entitled to a reward.
