Dave Rimington Named Interim AD For Husker Athletics

Omaha native and two time Husker All-American Dave Rimington is returning to Lincoln to serve as interim Athletic Director for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Chancellor Ronnie Green made the announcement late Tuesday morning. "I'm so pleased that we could count on Dave Rimington, who is a Husker through and through, to answer our call to lend his administrative expertise and unwavering support for Nebraska Athletics during this key time of transition. I am confident that Dave will provide exceptional leadership as we move forward in our search for a new, permanent director of athletics."

Rimington currently serves as president of the New York-based Boomer Esiason Foundation, but has agreed to take a leave of absence from the foundation to head up Nebraska Athletics on an interim basis. The appointment is slated to run for up to 60 days.

Rimington says he's humbled and grateful for the offer. "I look forward to working with the coaches, staff and student-athletes at Nebraska, which is a truly special place that has had a profound impact on my life and the lives of countless others."

Rimington was a four year letter winner at Nebraska, and the only player to win the Outland Trophy in consecutive years, 1981 and 1982. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of fame in 1997 and is one of just seventeen Huskers to have his jersey retired.

Rimington's new role will take effect immediately, and follows the university's September 21st decision to end Shawn Eichorst's employment as AD.
