With demands for their specialty care at an all time high, the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals' Omaha Campus is adding more beds.
Treating the most medically complex patients is what the staff at Madonna does best, but President and CEO Paul Dongilli says they haven't been able to help as many patients as they'd like because they needed more beds. "We've been full since we transferred the hospital from its Bellevue location to the Omaha location, and we're not able to admit all of the patients that are referred to us."
The hospital moved from Nebraska Medicine-Bellevue to its own campus near 175th and Burke in October of 2016, and has seen an incredible number of patients. "We've had patients admitted from 43 different hospitals from eleven states and the sixteen additional beds will give us an opportunity to serve all the patients that are referred to us."
The addition of sixteen more beds will bring the total number of beds to 48 on the specialty side of the hospital. Dongilli says the beds are designed for patients who need extended care. "The specialty focus recognizes the fact that these individuals require an extended hospitalization period and that their recovery is not going to be quick or easy." Beds on the rehabilitation side bring the total number of beds in the entire hospital to 110, which Dongilli says will probably be completely full by January.
