Local Charities Team Up To Help Hurricane Clean Up

Two metro charities are coming together to help hurricane victims who have been left with unspeakable messes after hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

The Salvation Army is partnering with Food Bank for the Heartland to collect donations of cleaning supplies that will be used to clean-up after the immense flooding caused by the hurricanes.

The drive runs from 8 AM till Noon on Saturday, September 16th at the Food Bank for the Heartland, located off Interstate 80 near 106th and J streets.

Those wanting to drop off donations can simply drive-through the parking lot and volunteers will take the items, so you don't have to even get out of your car.

Susan Eustice with the Salvation Army encourages those hitting I-80 on the way to the Husker game to stop by with their donations on their way down to Lincoln. "Just drop them by, there will be lots and lots of volunteers there to take them from you, and if you're going to the game, get you there on time."

The clean-up supplies will be delivered to disaster sites by Werner Enterprises, then distributed by The Salvation Army to those affected by Harvey and Irma.

The donation drive is accepting new items used for flood clean-up, which includes:

· Plastic buckets · All-purpose handles · Mop heads · Broom heads · Bleach · All-purpose cleaner · Masks · Squeegee heads · Sponges · Scrubbers (small) · Trash bags · Vinyl gloves · Work gloves
