Levy Override Passes For Westside Community Schools

Voters in the Westside Community School District Ballots narrowly approved a 15 cent levy override Tuesday night.

Unofficial results of 7,510 ballots show 3,847 were cast for the override and 3,648 against it.  The district asked taxpayers for more money to off-set budget shortfalls caused, in part, by a decrease in state education funding.

Without the extra money, district leaders worry they might lose teachers, have to increase class sizes, and cut student services and programs.

Override ballots were sent to Westside property owners via U.S.Mail.  Provisional ballots will not be included in the final numbers until next Tuesday.
