Residents of the Annex Apartments near 72nd and Jones Circle got an early wake up call Saturday morning. They were evacuated after a car struck a gas meter around 5:00 a.m.
Police say a car rounded a corner at a high rate of speed and hit the fencing and gas meters on the side of the apartment building.
The gas line was shut off and the building was evacuated as a precaution. The driver of the car was not injured.
Residents were allowed to return to their apartments a short. Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
