In the wake of Hurricane Harvey and the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Irma in Florida, the American Red Cross in Omaha is working quickly to train volunteers to respond to disasters.
If you've always wanted to help during times of crisis there will be an opportunity to take a training class in Omaha on Sunday. The Red Cross "Everyday Heroes Training for prospective volunteers who want to respond to disasters locally or around the country are encouraged to sign up.
The six hour course will equip new volunteers with the training needed to respond. “Volunteers are the lifeblood of the American Red Cross, especially in times of hurricanes, tornados, floods, or home fires,” said Jill Orton, Regional CEO for Nebraska, Kansas, and Southwest Iowa. “Volunteers comprise about 94% of the Red Cross workforce, and participants in this program will learn the skills they need to be able to deploy.”
The training class will include information on the several topics, including working in a shelter and what to expect during your two week deployment.
The class runs from Noon until 6:00 pm at the American Red Cross, 2912 S. 80th Ave and will be held in the Kiewit Room. Lunch will be served to all participants.
