Two Critically Injured In Grover Street Crash

A father and son were critically injured in a two vehicle crash near 56th and Grover around 2:30 Friday morning.

The Nebraska State Patrol says they clocked a Dodge Challenger traveling at 102 miles per hour on Interstate 80 near 42nd street in Omaha around 2:30 a.m.

A pursuit was initiated with lights and siren as the Challenger turned onto 42nd street. The Trooper lost sight of the Challenger a short time later near 48th and Grover and ended the pursuit.

Following a tip from a bystander that the vehicle had continued westbound on Grover, the Trooper observed that the Challenger had crashed into a parked vehicle at 54th and Grover.

The Trooper approached the scene and heard screams from inside the car. He then pulled both the driver and passenger from the vehicle, while another bystander put out a fire that had started in the engine area of the car.

The Challenger lost control and struck an SUV parked in a driveway sending both vehicles nearly 200 feet before coming to a stop in the parking lot of a nursing home.

The Patrol says the car was driven by 41 year old Jason Frank Leach.  His passenger was 16 year old Jason Richard Leach.  Both were transported to Bergan Mercy Hospital. Jason Frank Leach's injuries are considered life-threatening. Jason Richard Leach sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues.
