Omaha Police Investigate Home Invasion Shooting

Omaha Police are sorting out the details after a home owner shot an intruder near 80th and Harney around 8:20 this morning.

The homeowner called 911 and told police he had shot a burglar in the stomach after he broke into the house.  The wounded man, 25 year old John McDonald, was taken to CHI Bergan Mercy in serious condition.

NewsRadio 1110 KFAB spoke to David Gilliam, who is a friend of the homeowner.  He says 60 year old Renard "Lance" Lebron was attacked with a baseball bat by someone who broke into his house during a separate incident on Tuesday morning. "He had lumps all over him, his eyes were bruised," Gilliam says.

Gilliam says Lebron fought off the intruder by sticking him several times with a screw driver, including once in the eye.  Gilliam believes Thursday morning's shooting stemmed from the incident on Tuesday, but Police have not confirmed if there is any connection between the two events.

The investigation is ongoing.
