Teen Sentenced In Shooting Death of Two Men

An Omaha teen will spend the next few decades of his life behind bars.

Seventeen year old Courvoisier Sims was sentenced to 70 to 120 years in the shooting deaths of two other teens.

Sims faced two murder charges stemming from the shooting deaths of Brandon Phelps and James Star in December 2015.

Eighteen year old Star and seventeen year old Phelps were found outside the Chambers Court Apartments near 16th and Yates.

Sims’ attorney asked for 20 years to life on each charge, the minimum sentence, saying Sims was “a 15 year-old who panicked, there was no intent to do this."

Brandon Phelps' father told Sims in court, “I just got out of prison. I didn't get to bury my son. I hate to see this happen to you. God bless you. I don't hate you. Do something while you're in there."

Sims will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
