More than 40 American Red Cross volunteers from the Omaha & Lincoln areas and throughout the region are in Texas helping with relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
Vicki Helligan from Cozad has been helping out in Houston, TX since Friday. She tells WOWT 6 News "What you're seeing on T.V. is very true... The water has just inundated Houston... Some of these residents have lost absolutely everything."
Helligan says the damage is unimaginable. "You've got some really desperate situations down here. I don't care where you live, you're never prepared for this kind of disaster."
she says the most urgent need in Texas is for more volunteers to assist with the relief effort. "We need people very desperately to come help us.... There's not enough of us to go around."
