Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a house fire Wednesday afternoon that killed a family pet and caused about $15-thousand damage.
Neighbors saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement window near 64th and William around 4:30.
The heat from the fire melted the aluminum siding on the side of a house next door. No one was home at the time. Firefighters made their way inside and found the family's dog. Attempts to revive the animal failed.
