Now that the Great American Eclipse is done and over with, many people are wondering what to do with those solar glasses they worked so hard to track down.
An organization called Astronomers Without Borders says they will gladly use any eclipse glasses you are willing to part with. The group will take the donated glasses and distribute them to children in Asia and South America, where eclipses will be visible in 2019.
Astronomers Without Borders has not identified addresses for people to send the glasses directly to, so local organizations and businesses are collecting them and will send them to AWB for you.
Dundee clothing retailer and boutique Hello Holiday is accepting donations so residents don't have to pay for shipping. Owner Megan Hunt says it is important to give other people the experience we had in Nebraska during the eclipse. "I'm glad that people are just in the spirit of how wonderful our earth is and beautiful the sky was that day and they want the kids in other countries to have the same experience." Hunt says if you want to donate your glasses, simply drop off the glasses at the store, 5008 Underwood Avenue, Omaha, NE 68132, and be on your way.
The Papio-Missouri River NRD is also collecting the solar glasses. Those donations can be mailed or dropped off at their office located at 8901 South 154th Street, Omaha, NE 68138.
