Tragedy Grips Two Iowa Towns After Deadly Crash

Two teenagers driving separate vehicles were killed when their vehicles collided near Logan, Iowa around 11:00 Friday night.

The Iowa State Patrol says it happened on Highway 30 near Niagara Trail.   According to an accident report, a vehicle driven eastbound on Highway 30 by 18 year old Cody Wills of Logan crossed the center line and hit a vehicle head-on driven by 16 year old Syler Haase of Missouri Valley.

Hasse and Wills were killed.  17 year old Dalton Anderson, a passenger in Hasse's vehicle, was injured and is recovering.

The news sent shock waves through both communities.   "I'm just in shock, and I just feel like it's a nightmare that it's just gonna end," Emily Kierscht, a classmate of Hasse's told WOWT 6 News.

Hasse, who was set to begin his junior year at Missouri Valley, was a well liked student and played many sports.  "It's hard because I knew him for son long," Faith Staska says.  "He was a good friend of mine."

The sense of loss is also being felt in Wills' hometown of Logan.  "Somebody is there one minute and then gone the next," LeeAnn Kirby told WOWT 6 News.  "It can happen to anyone."

Wills graduated last year.
