Officials at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium announced Thursday its newest snow leopard cub will be on public display Friday.
The female cub was born on June 5 and is the first snow leopard cub since 2006. The snow leopard cub was born to Rosemary, a three-year-old who was transferred to Omaha’s in September 2015 from Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park.
Pasha, the cub’s father, came to Omaha from the Toronto Zoo in May 2012 and is eight years old. Both snow leopards came to the Omaha zoo as part of the snow leopard Species Survival Plan (SSP).
Rosemary, Pasha and the cub make up the population of snow leopards at Henry Doorly Zoo..
Snow leopards are listed as endangered . Habitat and prey loss as well as poaching are the main contributing factors to the specie’s population decline.
