Paramedics Replace Girl's Stolen Bicycle

A pair of Omaha paramedics are being credited for going above and beyond the call of duty after a 13 year old girl was assaulted by a man near 45th and Saddle Creek on Monday.

A middle aged man struck the girl in the head and knocked her off her bike and then stole it.  After transporting the girl to the hospital, Dustin Talacko and Matt Carroll came up with a plan to put a smile on the girl's face.

Talacko says they stopped by a house down the street from the fire station where a family refurbishes bikes for inner city youth.   After making sure the brakes were good and the bike was safe to ride, Talacko and Carroll loaded it up in the rescue squad and took it to the hospital and gave it to the girl.

Talacko says the girl "had a big smile on her face."  "It kind of gave us excitement to help her out."  Carroll says they also didn't want the ordeal to ruin the girl's summer vacation.  "That would be a horrible memory that the last thing that happened to you before you went back to school was having a guy stealing your bike from you."
