Man Arrested After Stolen Car Slams Into Trees

A man who tried to flee from Omaha Police in a stolen car Tuesday afternoon picked the wrong road to try and escape on.

Sergeant Mark Noonan says the red Honda slammed into some trees on a dead end street near 105th and Burt Tuesday afternoon.  The car then burst into flames behind the Psychological Services building. After setting up a perimeter, Noonan says they caught the man in a residential area about two blocks away.

Noonan says officers first spotted the stolen car near the Westroads Mall.  Moments later it struck another vehicle near 96th and Burt.  No one was injured in that crash.   Police began a brief pursuit but quickly ended it due to traffic conditions.

Noonan says they were able to follow a trail of debris from the initial crash to 105th and Burt where the Honda was found engulfed in flames.  Because the fire was near the doctor's building, it had to be briefly evacuated while the fire was extinguished.
