For the second straight year Omaha is hosting the 2017 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships on August 12th and 13th.
Thousands of athletes of various skill levels will compete in the event, which will be centered at Levi Carter Park.
Omaha Police are urging drivers and vistors to plan ahead and be prepared for road closures near the park.
The swim will take place in Carter Lake. The cycling portion of the race will take place on Abbott Drive, North 16th Street, John J. Pershing Drive, Storz Expressway and North River Road into Washington County.
The run heads south, turning around just prior to Locust Street, and then returning to Levi Carter Park to finish. Last year the route went into downtown Omaha. Travelers utilizing Eppley Airfield will only be able to access the airport terminal and parking from the south, using Abbott Drive.
Travelers flying out of Eppley on August 12th or August 13th should leave an hour earlier than planned in order to allow extra time for possible delays caused by road closures.
Spectators wishing to watch the race from the start/finish area can enter Levi Carter Park from the west via North 16th Street and Carter Boulevard, and proceed into the northern section of the park.
There are also free shuttles available, originating from the Hilton Omaha Downtown and Embassy Suites-Old Market. Local organizers say volunteers are needed to help, especially on Saturday and Sunday. Spokesman Alan Kohll says all volunteers receive a t-shirt and are fed.
