Shots Fired At Polk County Sheriff's Deputies

Two men are facing charges after several shots were fired at Polk County Sheriff's deputies.

38 year old Douglas Burke of Clarks, Nebraska and 25 year old Derek Hobbs of Omaha were arrested by members of the Nebraska State Patrol SWAT team and deputies from multiple sheriffs’ and police departments

The State Patrol says the men were involved in a pursuit  that began late Saturday night. A Polk County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a vehicle with plates that did not match the vehicle. The vehicle fled and during the pursuit, authorities say the passenger fired several round at the deputies, striking one patrol car.

The vehicle went into a ditch in Polk County and both men fled on foot.  Investigators say Burke was driving and surrendered to authorities.  Hobbs, who had an active felony warrant from Omaha for Terroristic Threats and two other charges, was found in a cornfield early Sunday morning.  Authorities say he was in possession of a loaded gun.

Charges against both men are pending further investigation
