Anthony Garcia's Lawyers Asked To Be Taken Off His Case

The Chicago attorneys who've spent the last four years representing Anthony Garcia may be bidding the Omaha adieu.

The Mottas have asked to be removed from Garcia's case after the Nebraska Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by the attorneys. In the appeal the defense team disagreed with Judge Gary Randall's decision to appoint a state Public Defender to help with sentencing.

The lawyers are scheduled to appear by phone for the withdrawal at an August 31st hearing, meaning the Mottas will not represent Garcia as he goes through the death penalty process. Judge Randall is also expected to set a date for the death penalty proceedings at the same hearing.

Garcia was found guilty last October of four murders between 2008 and 2013. The murders were determined to be revenge killings for Garcia's firing from the Creighton University pathology program in 2001.
