Vietnam Wall Memorial Makes Stop In The Metro

As a way to honor and remember those who died during the Vietnam War a Vietnam Memorial replica will stand outside of Werner Park in Papillion this week.

The wall was trucked to Werner Park Wednesday morning in a special convoy, ushered in by Bellevue, La Vista and Papillion police and American Legion Riders.

The replica Vietnam Memorial has all the feature of the original in Washington D.C., including every name, it's just about half the size of the iconic wall.

Jim Morbach with Werner Enterprises says it is an honor to display the wall outside the stadium. "During Vietnam a lot of our veterans maybe weren't treated the way that our veterans are treated nowadays and I think it's our American duty to show our support towards Vietnam veterans and their families today."

Omaha Storm Chasers President Martie Cordaro says the wall will be available for viewing 24 hours a day while it is on display at the park. "Just out in front of the Bob Gibson statue is where 'The Wall That Heals' will be displayed. There will also be an educational learning center as well, it'll be next to it."

The display will be available for viewing starting at 11:00 AM on Thursday and will remain there until about 6:00 PM on Sunday.
