Name For New Park Near 168th & Fort

By unanimous vote, the City of Omaha Naming Committee has recommended the new lake and park at 168th and Fort be named for the founder of Boys Town, Father Edward Flanagan.  The committee reviewed more than 200 suggested names offered by citizens.  Flanagan Lake was the top suggestion.

The committee’s vote must be approved by the Parks and Recreation Board and the Omaha City Council.  The Parks and Recreation Board will meet this month.

The top recommended names from the public included:

There were more than 75 suggestions made by the public.   Omaha will take possession of the property in September and the park is expected to open next year.
