Bond was set at $25,000 Friday afternoon for a former Omaha Police officer who is facing a felony assault charge.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine filed assault charges earlier this week against Scotty Payne for his part in the in-custody death of Zachary Bearheels.
Payne turned himself in early Friday morning and appeared before a judge at 1:00 Friday afternoon.
Payne is facing a charge of Felony Second Degree Assault, which comes with a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison.
Payne's lawyer says he expects Payne to post bond and be released Friday afternoon.
