Omaha Police say alcohol was a factor in a two car crash early Saturday morning that sent both drivers to the hospital.
Just after 2:00 a.m. police and firefighters were called to the area of 16th and Storz Expressway. Investigators say a 2011 Mazda 3 was traveling westbound on the Storz Expressway and a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was eastbound.
Police say The driver of the Malibu lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center grassy median and went into the westbound lanes. The front-end of the Mazda collided with the driver's side of the Malibu resulting in massive damage to both vehicles.
Both drivers had to be freed from their vehicles by firefighters. Both drivers were transported to Nebraska Medicine to be treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries sustained in the collision.
Police say the driver of the Malibu, 39 year old Fernando Romero-Valdovinos, had been drinking prior to the crash. He suffered a broken pelvis and possible internal injuries.
The other driver suffered a broken leg. This crash remains under investigation.
