A Council Bluffs man is facing a long list of charges after an early morning crash and pursuit. Police say 59 year old Michael Flanagan was driving southbound in the northbound lanes on the South Expressway around 1:45 Friday morning.
An officer in a fully marked cruiser saw the lights of the vehicle coming directly at him. The officer tried to signal to Flanagan to stop by turning on his emergency lights, but the driver continued.
The officer pulled over to the side to avoid being hit, but Flanagan sideswiped his cruiser. The officer was not injured in the crash.
Flanagan continued southbound in the wrong lanes hitting another car that was northbound. The driver of the second car had minor injuries and was treated at the hospital.
At that point the officer began to pursue the car. Eventually they used stop sticks, flattening all four of Flanagan's tires. Officers took him into custody.
Flanagan is now in the Pottawattamie County Corrections facing charges of operating while intoxicated (second offense), leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, eluding, interference with official acts, driving while disqualified, no proof of insurance, and improper use of a controlled access facility.
