Nebraska Medicine Employee Stabbed By Patient

A Nebraska Medicine employee is recovering after being stabbed by a patient Friday morning.

Omaha Police say a phlebotomist was trying to draw blood from 37 year old Zacherey Dvorak on the fourth floor of the Lied Transplant Center. They say Dvorak became agitated and did not want his blood to be drawn.

Nebraska Medicine spokesperson Taylor Wilson says that is when Dvorak pulled out a homemade weapon and stabbed the employee in the face. Wilson says the weapon was made out of items found in Dvorak's hospital room.

Other hospital employees restrained the patient until police could arrive.

The phlebotomist suffered a cut to her face that required stitches, but she is expected to be okay.

Omaha Police booked Dvorak on charges of Assault of a Healthcare Professional and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony..

The incident is still under investigation.
