Flying history returns to Nebraska this week for the Collin's Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour. Volunteer Coordinator Michael Dober says the tour includes four vintage WWII aircraft that include fighters and bombers.
This is a very rare opportunity to visit, explore and learn more about our military aviation history. The B-17 is one of only 8 in flying condition in the U.S. The B-25 is best know for being used in the daring Doolittle raid. The newly restored P-51 was just awarded Grand Champion for restoration at the EAA Oshkosh AirVenture.
Visitors can explore both outside and inside the aircraft. The best news is flights are also available in all three planes. A 30 minute flight on the B-17 or B-24 is $450 per person. B-25 flights are $400 per person and the P-51 Mustang is $2,200 for a half hour and $3,200 for a full hour but you do get some stick time to actually fly the plane.
The Wings of Freedom Tour is currently at the Columbus Airport through July 21st. The planes then fly into TAC Air and will be on display July 21st through the 23rd. TAC Air is located directly east of Eppley Airfield at 3737 Orville Plaza.
Dober says the weather isn't cooperating this year and it will be hot but TAC Air is opening their doors to visitors where they can cool off and get a cold drink.
