Pick-A-Pooch At Ralston Arena

Dogs of all shapes and sizes will be at the Ralston Arena this weekend for the Pick-a-Pooch adoption event.  Lee Legenhausen is the founder of Pets of Omaha and the organizer and says this gives people a chance to learn more about dog breeds, their needs and information on finding the best fit for their home and lifestyle.

Legenhausen says, "We invite a lot of rescue and shelter groups.  This year 27 will be here and we have over 115 business booths that will want to be seen by all of the pet parents.  Some inside the pet industry.  A lot of them not in the pet industry but care about animals.  That is why they are here."

Some of the shelters and rescue groups taking part include the Nebraska Humane Society, Midlands Humane Society, Town and Country Humane Society, Muddy Paws Rescue, Little White Dog Rescue, Big Dogs - Big Paws Rescue and Hearts United for Animals.

Legenhausen says last year they adopted more than 130 dogs at the event and are hoping to break that record this year and give even more dogs in need a great home.

Several cat rescue groups are also taking part.

Doors open at 11 a.m. and the event runs until 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.  Admission is free of charge.
