Nearly 90 soldiers assigned to a Lincoln-based Nebraska Army National Guard headquarters detachment will be welcomed home from a nine-month deployment to Iraq during a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Haymarket Park in Lincoln.
The Soldiers are members of the 1st Infantry Division Main Command Post – Operational Detachment, a new type of unit that is designed to augment and enhance an active Army division headquarters staff during mobilizations.
The detachment has a number of Soldiers assigned to it who are specialists in such areas as intelligence, legal affairs, infantry, artillery, aviation, signal, administration, military police, engineers, chemical, logistics and public affairs.
The welcomed home ceremony will be open to the public. Due to heightened security at the ceremony site, officials are encouraging the public to plan for increased traffic and random security inspections.
