The lake has returned to Spring Lake Park in South Omaha.
For years the former lake at the park was a dumping ground, but Thursday community leader Janet Bonet joined city officials to dedicate the new lake.
Bonet says the lake is bringing plenty of people back to the area. "We have plenty of people coming down here everyday. Twenty, thirty people in an hour I've seen come down here. Walk dogs, walk kids, jog around the place, come down have a picnic at their lunch hour."
Bonet led a fifteen year effort to restore the small lake and surrounding wetlands. "The wildflowers are blooming. You can hear the birds, the wildlife is coming back. All that green on the lake means the water is perfectly healthy. That's duck wheat, now we just need some ducks to eat it."
The lake near 20th and F streets has been stocked with fish, and features bike and walking trails around it.
New storm and sanitary sewer pipes have been also been installed.
