Two Homemade Pipe Bombs Found In Bellevue

A 56 year old man has been arrested after Bellevue Police say they found two homemade pipe bombs inside a vehicle Monday night.

At around 7:40 PM, a Bellevue Police Officer on patrol observed two men engaged in suspicious activity near Gilbert Pool, located near W. 29th Ave. and Jackson Street.

According to police, one of the men was seated inside a vehicle in a nearby parking lot and the other appeared to be preparing to detonate some type of homemade firework.  The man near the firework immediately stopped when he observed the officer.

Upon closer inspection, the officer saw what he thought might be a pipe bomb.  The Omaha Police Bomb Squad ultimately responded to the area and diffused two homemade pipe bomb devices on location.

Officers also located additional bomb making materials in the car that the men were in.    56 year old Steven Pankers of Omaha was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Explosive Materials, Possession of Destructive Devices, Possession of Explosive Materials or Destructive Devices in a Motor Vehicle and Possession or Discharge of Illegal Fireworks. He was booked into the Sarpy County Jail.

Pankers son, 19 year old Michael Pankers of Omaha was released without charges.
