A man accused of killing a woman on May 31st has been ordered to stand trial.
Ernesto Lugo appeared in court Monday morning for a preliminary hearing in the shooting death of Rachel Ham at 16th and Yates. Ham's body was found in the street around 9:30 PM and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In court, Omaha Police Detective Brandon Hahn testified that witnesses told him Lugo and Ham had been arguing over drugs. Hahn said witnesses told him, as Ham walked away, Lugo shot her in the back of the head. Lugo was later found hiding in a field near the scene of the shooting.
Hahn says Lugo admitted to shooting Ham, but that he didn't mean to kill her, he was trying to fire a shot above her head. Autopsy findings though indicate that Ham was shot at close range, possibly only inches from her head.
Lugo faces a First Degree Murder charge.
