Shooting Leads To Crash, Injuries On Highway 75

Two people were injured after early-morning gunfire led to a crash on Highway 75 near Cuming Street. Officers were called to investigate a crash just after 3:00 a.m.  While enroute, the call was upgraded to a shooting.

When officers arrived there was a Chevy Suburban on its side.  They found 26 year old Warren Copeland at 26th and Burt suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

Investigators say Copeland and 28 year old Devron Franklin were northbound on Highway 75 in Subruban when occupants of another vehicle began shooting at them, forcing the vehicle to crash.

Franklin was not shot but suffered a neck injury in the wreck. He walked to the Creighton University Emergency Department at 24th and Cuming for treatment and is recovering.

Northbound traffic on Highway 75 was shut down for approximately four hours Sunday morning while police investigated the incident.
