Paint-A-Thon Needs Volunteers

Brush Up Nebraska  is experiencing a shortage of teams willing to paint homes during the 2017 Paint-A-Thon scheduled for August 19.   According to Tom and Sheila Pettigrew, executive directors of Brush Up Nebraska, the deadline for team registration has been extended to July 5.  Team leader training sessions will begin on July 6. Teams and leaders can register online at by clicking here or by calling Brush Up Nebraska at 402-965-9169.

The Paint-A-Thon has been serving the community for 29 years. The organization helps low-income homeowners in Douglas and Sarpy Counties, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, who are over 60 or permanently disabled at any age, by painting the exteriors of their homes.  Pettigrew says they hope to paint about 70 homes this year.  Volunteers will spend one day scraping and priming the house and then return for the one day Paint-A-Thon on August 19th.

Paint-A-Thon started in 1989 as a community partnership to paint the homes of older adults and disabled homeowners who are unable to either physically or financially paint their homes. Since the program’s inception, volunteer teams have painted 2,794 homes. The goal for 2017 is to paint 70 homes, but this can happen if 1,400 people volunteer to help.
