Planes Damaged At Offutt During Last Week's Tornado

Last week's massive storm did a lot of damage at Offutt Air Force Base.

The 55th Wing's Drew Nystrom says a number of planes were damaged. "Eight 55th Wing aircraft were affected by, or received moderate damage, from the storm. Six of those have already been returned to mission capable status."

Nystrom says the cost of the damage to the planes hasn't been calculated yet, but damage to infrastructure at the base significant. "A very preliminary total estimated cost  for repairs is expected to be between seven and ten million dollars."

He says more than 350 damaged trees will have to come down, and that's not including trees at the base lake or golf course.

Although the damage was significant, Nystrom says no assignments were missed. "We're proud and relieved no team Offutt members were hurt or injured during the storm. Our most valuable resource is our people and with everyone safe, we're ready to overcome any challenge we're faced with."
