Thousands of OPPD customers are still without power after Friday night's severe thunderstorms pummeled the metro area.
After completing damage assessments in the air and on the ground, OPPD officials it's currently anticipated that circuit restoration work will be substantially completed by end of day Monday. That would be about 86% of all outages restored.
Outages that resulted from damage to the distribution system, like poles and wires, should be substantially restored no later than end of day Wednesday. By then, it's estimated that about 98% of all outages should be restored.
OPPD officials are encouraging anyone without power or who has been impacted by the storm to continue to make alternate plans as needed. The latest updates about restoration efforts, as well as more information about power outage preparedness, can be found at stormandoutage.com.
Helicopters have been flying over transmission lines to get a better idea of the issues, and officials say these inspections show damage that's worse than anticipated. OPPD crews, along with help from neighboring utilities and additional contract help will continue to work throughout the weekend.
