Severe Weather Possible Friday Evening

Fans heading to the College World Series opening ceremonies Friday evening will need to keep an eye on the sky.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10:00 p.m.  WOWT 6 says isolated storms will develop as soon as 4-5pm in the western portions of the viewing area near Norfolk and Columbus.

Storms will then continue to develop as they quickly progress southeast through the area during the evening.  The window for storms in the metro appears to be 6pm to 9pm tonight.

The opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin around 8:30.  Any storm has the potential to be severe with large hail and strong straight line winds being the main threats.  An isolated tornado or two can not be ruled out though.

Saturday is then expected to be cooler with highs in the 80s and a 30% chance of spotty afternoon thundershowers as well.
