Disney World To Honor Elkhorn Boy One Year After His Death

One year after the tragic death of Elkhorn toddler Lane Graves, Disney World is planning to honor the two year old.

Walt Disney World will build a sculpture of a lighthouse in memory of Graves, who was killed by an alligator at one of their resorts.

The lighthouse is a symbol of the Lane Thomas Graves Foundation, which aims to help children in need in our community.

One year ago Wednesday, Graves was snatched by an alligator while wading in the waters of a lagoon near the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Lane's father Matt jumped in the water, and attempted to free his son from the alligator, but was unsuccessful.

Lane's body was found sixteen hours after the boy went under the water.

Disney World Resorts President George A. Kalogridis said that the lighthouse sculpture would be installed on the property this summer.

Since Lane's death, the resort has added a fence around the water and put up "No Swimming" signs.
