Driver In High Speed Crash Appears In Court

The 21 year old man accused of causing a high speed crash at 132nd and Blondo last week made his first appearance in court Tuesday.

A judge set bond for Shaheer Atiqullah at $35,000, which was higher than requested due to the extreme rate of speed in a busy part of Omaha.

Prosecutors say Atiqullah was clocked going 134 miles per hour on Dodge Street by a Nebraska State Trooper. They say he then tried to flee from the trooper, before crashing into a service van and lawn care truck and trailer on 132nd Street.

Atiquallah and his two passengers were transported to the hospital after the crash for treatment of minor injuries.

Atiqullah faces a number of charges including Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Willful Reckless Driving, Driving Under Suspension and Failure to Appear. He will appear in court again on July 7th.
