Special Chair Symbolizes Missing Service Members

This Memorial Day weekend will include a special dedication ceremony prior to Sunday night's Omaha Storm Chasers game at Werner Park .

A POW/MIA chair symbolizes the more than 82,000 men and women of the U S Military who are unaccounted for since WWI.

The empty chair is the creation of the American Legion Riders.  Spokesman Chris Casey says the chair "provides an excellent way to honor and remember those who sacrificed for our great country as well as an opportunity to educate the younger visitors about the price paid for our freedoms."

Casey says they also want people to give thought to how the families of those unaccounted for have lived their lives not knowing what happened to their loved ones.

"Put yourself in the shoes of those families who have no information, some dating back to WW1."

The chair will be located in front of Section 125 down the left field line.  It includes the black POW/MIA emblem and a plaque.  The dedication will be held at 6:00 prior to the game against Round Rock.

The Omaha Post 1 Honor Guard will post colors, offer a rifle salute and then taps.
