Body Pulled From ConAgra Lake

The search for a missing swimmer on the ConAgra Lake had a tragic ending Thursday morning.

Search crews used pipe poles to recover the man's body around 10:00 a.m.  Omaha Police will now work to identify him.

Fire Captain Steve Thornburg says the body was found under the water, about 25 to 30 feet from shore with the help of recently purchased sonar equipment.

"It helped identify the object,  seemed out of place with all the piping and other objects that are down there for the fountain, something that was out of place. And they went back out and were able to identify it wasn't a rock or log. We were able to pull it up."

Thornburg said earlier Thursday that OFD's water rescue boat was launching with members of the Parks Department on board to help them navigate some unusually tricky waters in the lagoon.

"There are, according to the Parks Department, a lot of pipes and equipment for the fountain down there that's going to make it a little bit harder to identify things on the bottom," Thornburg said.
