During Tuesday morning's pre-City Council meeting, Mayor Jean Stothert made a surprise visit. City Council President Ben Gray joked "I can't imagine that the mayor is down here because this is an exciting meeting."
Mayor Stothert then took the floor to thank Councilmen Garry Gernandt and Franklin Thompson for their years of service to the City.
Tuesday marked the final City Council meeting for both men, who were first elected to represent their districts in 2001.
Stothert presented Gernandt and Thompson with a Key to the City.
