Lincoln Police Warn Of Fake Money Being Used

If you are selling something online or holding a yard sale be on the lookout for phony money, especially in Lincoln.

Officer Angela Sands with the Lincoln Police says people are buying movie prop money and trying to pass it off as the real deal. "It's money that's the right size and it looks realistic, but it's typically stamped with a quote such as for motion picture use only."

While Sands says the crooks have been successful in conning some people, there are ways to tell if it's fake. "Had red lettering, that looked like some type of Asian language on it.  A couple times we've seen people write over that to make it look more real."

Sands says most of the victims were businesses, but some have been private sellers.

There have been twelve cases of counterfeit money reported this month alone.
